A little bit about Susie...
I bought my first German Shorthair in 1982 because I had shot over them in Kent and loved their work ethic!
I thought I could train a dog! Wrong, a HPR was very different and by 10 months she was out of control, 2 hours chasing crows through slurry finished me! 3 baths later I went to the Club show and asked for help.
The Breed then was not split quite so much into show and working and I got SO much generous help!! (Got the showing bug too!)
I joined the GSP and Chiltern training clubs and the turn around began.
At 20 months she won an Intermediate/Graduate working test and 3rd in Novice on the same day!
We worked hard and eventually won a total of 10 Open tests!! We never trialled but we picked up regularly and worked for two different groups of guns on early partridges!
The next HPR was a second hand GWP who won an Open Test, I did Trial her but not after she had her massive litter!
Her daughter managed placings in Open Tests but had issues with speed, she still managed 6 guns awards in Trials. She came back to showing as a Veteran 2nd and 3rd in BASC classes and retired on a Crufts Breed 3rd in a class of 7 Veterans!
She gave me Teazle who possibly was my HPR lifetime dog, several Trial awards working test awards in all categories and she was the last I qualified for Crufts winning 2/54 in the BASC ring and 2 Limit Bitch in the Breed ring.
She gave me Fleckle who has had an up and down career in that she was attacked by a Labrador at 5 months with an operation to repair the damage at 8 months followed by 6 months physio.
She never did a Puppy Test but was 2nd in her first Novice, 3rd in her second and won her third but has done little competition since, house sale, two moves, so she does what she does best Picking up!!!
Her daughter watch this space????
Me? I started teaching in the early 90s because I kept being asked for help.
